Using multifrequency radio data (64MHz - 22GHz) and XMM-Newton X-ray data taken of 3C353, I measured the pressure within the lobes and the in the external environment, which allowed me to conclude that East lobe is electron dominated while the West lobe is in equipartition. I also found that the variation in the X-ray inverse-Compton emission and the synchrotron radio emission cannot be explained by a variation in the electron spectrum across the lobe - a magnetic field change is also required. This galaxy and Pictor A are now being monitored for jet variability and for other clues to the behaviour of magnetic fields and particles in these close, resolved radio galaxies. |
